Year 6

                             Welcome to Year 6!

It’s your final year at St Luke's and July will come in the blink of an eye! This year is going to be a lot of fun, learning and hard work!  I can’t wait for us to settle into our routines and make some amazing memories together.

Mrs East is the class teacher and Mrs Armstrong is the learning support assistant. Miss Good also teaches in Class 6 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's. On this page, you will find information about Year 6 news, curriculum information, photos to capture our learning and much more...

We are all looking forward to an exciting Autumn term, focusing on our topic of energy - 'We've got the Power'. Our first week back will be a special 'Wellbeing' week. Quickly followed by a fabulous week long residential of adventurous activities to look forward to. We are aiming to grow as a team together.

Our Class Country

We will also be learning all about our adopted country - USA.

Talk For Writing

As a Talk 4 Writing school, we place emphasis on children learning to orally retell different types of texts using story maps and actions. Throughout the year, children will learn approximately 9-12 model texts. We ask all parents to support children with learning these texts at home orally, so that children can use them to create their own versions.

The table below highlights the text types and texts that we are learning in Year 6. The table will be updated and added to throughout the year. Please download the texts and story maps and practise retelling them.  Aim to retell the texts with actions and expression!

Maths No Problem

As a school, we place emphasis on teaching Maths using a Maths Mastery approach. We place emphasis on children learning to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. We use Maths No Problem Maths Textbooks and Workbooks in school. To find out more, visit http://www.st-lukes.hants.sch.uk/click-here-for-parent-videos-for-singapore-maths/ to watch parent videos all about how we teach Maths at St Luke's.

The table below highlights the textbook and chapters that we are learning in Year 6. The table will be updated and added to throughout the year. If you wish to purchase a copy of the Maths No Problem Textbook A and B and Workbook A and B for your year group for use at home and also find out more about how Maths is taught in school, these are available to order at http://www.mathsnoproblem.co.uk/mathematics/primary-key-stage1-and-key-stage-2/maths-no-problem.html

We ask all parents to support children with learning their times tables at home; this is key to children being successful as Mathematicians.

18.09 Brilliant Beginning to our Energy Project

We had a really interesting and informative visit to the Solent Solar Farm, where we saw nearly 10,000 solar panels in action.  Did you know that it cost £2.6million to build...but that it will repay itself in 8 years?  It produces enough energy for 650 homes (or the equivalent of a quarter of a million light bulbs).  Is this the answer to our energy crisis?  Y6 are certainly forming their own opinions on the matter...

24.09 to the 28.09.18 Kingswood Residential

Y6 are looking forward to having an amazing time at Kingswood this year, building their confidence and self-belief as they tackle various challenges and new experiences.  We will share a small taste of our adventures on our return. For more details, come to the Y6 Worship on the 12th October.
