Children's Work During Lockdown

With school now reopened after lockdown, it has been wonderful to welcome the Year 6s back into school. I would also like to congratulate all the children who continued to work so diligently throughout the lockdown period and that magnificent attitude that you have shown since you have been back. You have been absolute stars!

The government have published a list of words that they expect years 5 & 6 to be able to spell.  You will find it helpful for revising in the lead-up to SATs. Please encourage your child to make use of the 'Spelling Shed' website to help support the learning of these spellings, as well as their weekly spelling rule. Thank you. https://www.spellingshed.com

Maths No Problem

As a school, we place emphasis on teaching Maths using a Maths Mastery approach. We place emphasis on children learning to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. We use Maths No Problem Maths Textbooks and Workbooks in school. To find out more, visit https://www.st-lukes.hants.sch.uk/click-here-for-parent-videos-for-singapore-maths/ to watch parent videos all about how we teach Maths at St Luke's.

The table below highlights the textbook and chapters that we are learning in Year 6. The table will be updated and added to throughout the year. If you wish to purchase a copy of the Maths No Problem Textbook A and B and Workbook A and B for your year group for use at home and also find out more about how Maths is taught in school, these are available to order at http://www.mathsnoproblem.co.uk/mathematics/primary-key-stage1-and-key-stage-2/maths-no-problem.html

We ask all parents to support children with learning their times tables at home; this is key to children being successful as Mathematicians.

Please also remember to make use of  IXL https://uk.ixl.com/ and Times Tables Rock Stars https://ttrockstars.com to further support Maths at home.

Year 6 Parent Presentation

18.09 Brilliant Beginning to our Energy Project

We had a really interesting and informative visit to the Solent Solar Farm, where we saw nearly 10,000 solar panels in action.  Did you know that it cost £2.6million to build...but that it will repay itself in 8 years?  It produces enough energy for 650 homes (or the equivalent of a quarter of a million light bulbs).  Is this the answer to our energy crisis?  Y6 are certainly forming their own opinions on the matter...
