Year 4

 Welcome to the Year 4.

Miss Good is the class teacher and Mrs Swaine is the teaching assistant. On this page you will find information about Class 4.

Reminders for the Autumn Term 2020

Stationery - In order to minimise multiple use of equipment, it would be great if you could provide your child with a pencil case containing the following equipment: a ruler, glue stick, HB pencil and pencil sharpener, a fibre tipped writing pen (if your child has their handwriting licence), a set of colouring pencils, two different coloured highlighter pens and a green and purple biro. It would be extremely helpful if the pencil case was relatively small as space on tables and trays is limited. We will provide this equipment where required.

P.E. - Children in Class 4 will need their P.E. kits on Monday and Thursday and in line with our Covid 19 Risk Assessment, in order to reduce increased congestion when changing, children are invited to come to school, on those days, in their P.E. kit. P.E. kits should consist of jogging bottoms, shorts, a house-coloured t-shirt, jumper (or sweatshirt) and trainers.

Roman Day- our Roman Day will be on Wednesday 16th September 2020 and children are invited to come to school dressed as a Roman on this day.

Spellings - Every Monday, your child will be taught a new spelling rule to practise during the week, ready for a spelling test on Friday. Please encourage your child to spend time at home practising these spellings using 'Look, say, cover, write, check' in the Spelling Homework Booklets, as well as discussing the spelling rule and possibly finding exceptions to the rule as an 'above and beyond' challenge. Please ensure these Spelling Booklets are kept in school bags.

Reading - Please record when you hear your child read in their yellow 'Reading Record Book'. If your child is a fluent reader, who reads independently, please encourage them to make a record each time they read for 15 minutes or more and sign alongside.  These books need to be in school every day.

As a school, we place emphasis on teaching Maths using a Maths Mastery approach. We place emphasis on children learning to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. We use Maths No Problem Maths Textbooks and Workbooks in school. To find out more, visit https://www.st-lukes.hants.sch.uk/click-here-for-parent-videos-for-singapore-maths/ to watch parent videos all about how we teach Maths at St Luke's.
